St John Ambulance & STARS
Synchro Stars is pleased to confirm we have secured the services of The St John Ambulance
, based on Camp Road, Kingston - Jamaica. C N Powell (Commissioner - South East Area & Director of Training) and his team, will be providing emergency services, in the event it is needed at our October Championships.
The Order of St John – its full name is The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem – has two key objects:
The encouragement of all that makes for the spiritual and moral strengthening of mankind in accordance with the first great principle of the Order embodied in the Motto ‘Pro Fide’;
The encouragement and promotion of all work of humanity and charity for the relief of persons in sickness, distress, suffering or danger, without distinction of race, class or creed and the extension of the second great principle of the Order embodied in the Motto ‘Pro Utilitate Hominum’. Pro Fide means For the Faith, (meaning the Christian faith) and Pro Utilitate Hominum means In the Service of Humanity.
It is a unique organisation:
- which stems from roots that began in the 11th Century;

- which, in its current form, was incorporated in the United Kingdom by a Royal charter granted by Queen Victoria in 1888;
- which is an Order of Chivalry of the British Crown;
- which is one of five mutually recognised Orders of St John;
- which is a major international charity, recognised at the United Nations, that carries on its activities in more than 40 countries; and
- which has about 25,000 members worldwide and is supported by over 4,000 salaried employees as well as by about 250,000 regular volunteers and numerous other supporters.
What they do
The Order of St John traces its origins back 900 years when the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem was established in the holy city by monks who wanted to care for the sick and the poor. As a result our inspiration comes from our motto “For the Faith and in the Service of Humanity.”
When the modern Order of St John was incorporated by Queen Victoria in 1888 at the time of the industrial revolution, St John Ambulance volunteers were providing vital first aid and ambulance services across Britain. While these remain at the core of St John’s work around the world, many other services have been developed to care and support communities in need.
Public Duties: St John is present at all major sporting events including horse-racing, football, cricket and tennis tournaments, international conferences and elsewhere where crowds assemble for royal visits, national parades, carnivals and military
occasions.
First Aid Training: Students from a wide variety of organisations attend SJA courses including those from the bauxite companies, other commercial and industrial companies, schools, hotels, sports clubs, banks, churches, junior doctors and nurses from hospitals, youth clubs, the police, military, fire brigade, the airport authority and airlines.
Care in the Commuinity: Care for the elderly and young children is provided by St John in Allman Town, a deprived suburb of Kingston.
Synchro Stars holistically supports the efforts of the St John Ambulance. For further information, volunteer enquiries or donations, kindly utilise the contact details below.
